I love and applaud the immense work Bruce Ware has done on the resurgence of interest in the Trinity. He has ironed out the ugly, cleared the table of the bad, and pointed us towards the good in both ancient & modern Trinitarian thinking. In fact I’m a Bruce Ware fan. He wrote the book … Continue reading
Folmsbee, Chris. A New Kind of Youth Ministry. Grand Rapids, MI: Zondervan, 2007. Hmm… I’ve got a problem now haven’t I? Y’see, I love challenging the status quo, I love new ways of doing things, and I’m totally behind challenging classical methods of Christian Youth Ministry for a 21st Century culture! So in principle I’m … Continue reading
It’s hard to find common ground and consistent connections between Old Testament Prophets. I’m bringing this up as I recently attended a youth minister training seminar where the gift of prophecy was discussed. It was suggested by the leader that when you bring a word of prophecy to someone you should bring it ‘as if it were the very words of Christ himself.’ The scriptural evidence for this … Continue reading
Book recommendations to give clear Biblical foundations on the theology of worship I’m bugged that so much of the modern day ‘worship’ and ‘worship leading’ as little to do with what the Bible loves and expounds about worship itself. We sing ‘break my heart with what breaks yours’ but don’t actually dig deep into the … Continue reading
So in my supreme arrogance, I tend to think there are three types of church leader response to the relativity new, music-based office of worship leader. There’s the accepter, the rejector, and the integrator.
In many an over-the-teapot-type chat, I’ve found myself talking about healing with fellow youth workers. After a while I’d chip in a view or two (see below) and face a mix of polite disbelief and warm pat-on-the-head correction. So what do I believe about healing that’s apparently so odd?
So I believe it’s really really important as Youth Workers to have some knowledge of Open Theism. Why? – Because we’re probably the worst people in the world for dumbing stuff down! And when we dumb certain things down, we start saying the same things as Open Theists say and we start teaching people to … Continue reading

Best thing I’ve head on Children’s evangelism in a long time! Listen – more than once… take notes! & I’ll post mine at some point once … Continue reading

From “Fruit that will last” by Tim Hawkins. Summary of Chapter 3, ‘ 5 Substitutes for Quality Fruit.’ “Why do so many youth ministries fail to produce ‘fruit that will last?’ It’s not because we don’t want to… The problem is – there are 5 cheap substitutes for quality fruit that will delight you and … Continue reading
